Contura International A/S
A medical device company

About

|
Contura International A/S is a privately held medical device company based in Copenhagen with a portfolio of brands using patented hydrogels which add tissue volume to aging tissue and muscle.
Its first brand Aquamid is a dermal tissue filler which eliminates wrinkles, lines, and adds volume for beauty enhancement. The US market for fillers is about $750 million and the well known brands are Restylane and Juvaderm. Aquamid has unique benefits: it is a versatile volumizer, gives a natural look and feel, and provides lasting enhancement. It is injected into the subcutaneous tissue and is non-resorbable. It has sales in Europe and Asia. Recently Contura completed the Aquamid pivotal trial for a PMA to the FDA. It may launch in 2010. It seeks a US marketing partner for licensing. The target customers are plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and ENTs.
A second brand Bulkamid was licensed to J&J which has launched it in Europe. Bulkamid is injected into the urethral neck and cures or improves urinary incontinence.
The research portfolio has 3 to 5 other applications of hydrogel versions with US market potentials of annual sales between $10 million and $500+ million . The websites are: www.contura.com, www.aquamid.com

3 Major Issues

|
-
Should Contura seek a US partner with competitive fillers & position Aquamid as a niche add-on? Or, should the priority be to find a company involved in other businesses that sell to the target customers and where Aquamid would have higher priority in the product lines?
-
Should Contura continue to seek a marketing partner for each new application or should it seek a partner for the whole company excepting the current license arrangement? Can the US business be separated from the European & Asian businesses for licensing purposes?
-
What funding or partnering options are available to Contura to fund the Research portfolio of 3 to 5 new applications in the next 2 to 3 years?
