SonoMedix
A Medical Device Company

About

|
SonoMedix is an early-stage, privately held
medical device company located near
Philadelphia, PA. SonoMedix's initial product,
EZ- INR, is an easy to use blood coagulation
(PT/INR) test system for use by patients and
healthcare professionals in the management
of warfarin therapy. Warfarin, also sold as
Coumadin, is the only oral anticoagulation, or
blood thinning drug given to patients with
Atrial Fibrillation (Afib), Venous
Thromboembolism (VTE) or Mechanical Heart
Valves (MHV) to prevent the formation of
blood clots. An estimated three million people
in the US take warfarin daily and while it is the
most prescribed anticoagulant next to aspirin,
the consequences to the patient of being
outside the safe therapeutic range can be
severe and life threatening
The EZ-INR System is based on a proprietary
Nano-Acoustic Blood Analyzer (NABA)
technology. The EZ-INR System consists of a
handheld test meter and disposable test
strips. The NABA sensor is built into the
disposable test strip, creating the "razor &
blades" revenue model. The NABA system is
based on nano-acoustic interfacial sensing
technology, which is capable of detecting
blood properties at nano and micro-scales,
essentially at the molecular level. Because it
uses a fundamentally different means of
detecting blood properties than other existing
techniques, it has key competitive advantages
of being faster, more accurate and requiring a
smaller blood sample than anything on the
market or in commercial development. The
handheld meter will contain the measurement
and control electronics, providing both a direct
display of the test results, as well as wireless
communication for patient database
management and billing.

3 Major Issues

|
-
Would it be beneficial for the pharma companies that market Warfarin to promote and support patient self testing for PT/INR to keep those patients in their safe therapeutic range?
-
Reviewing the "Value Chain" slide and given the significant CMS reimbursement dollars garnered by the Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF), should Sonomedix expand its business model to include the IDTF function?
-
Funding options?
