Presymtec Medical

Wireless Health/Remote Health Monitoring company

Presenter: Jamie Richter, President and CEO of Presymtec Medical

About

Presymtec Medical is a Wireless Health/Remote Health Monitoring company with noninvasive, patent-pending technology enabling early detection of infections, before clinical symptoms occur.

Business Summary:  Presymtec Medical is a health care services business built around a proprietary, easy-to-use, medical device.  The company’s early detection technology improves health while reducing costs in at-risk patients who are highly susceptible to contracting respiratory infections.  The business will initially target high-acuity asthma and COPD patients, whose bodies are ill-equipped to handle such respiratory infections, when not diagnosed and treated promptly.  Benefits include increased compliance and reduction of unnecessary health and economic consequences.

3 Major Issues

  1. Regulatory:
    A.  Are we better off seeking a rapid 510K clearance (perhaps sacrificing a bit from a marketing perspective regarding Indications for Use) or spending extra time and money on a PMA?
    B.   When is the optimal time to pursue ex-U.S. regulatory approvals, relative to the FDA process?  What geographies should be highest priorities from a regulatory perspective?

  2. Reimbursement:
Which of the following two reimbursement models would investors prefer to see?  Are there others we should be pursuing, as well (e.g., what are the group’s thoughts on the DTC market)?
    A.  Medicare code, such that individual physicians refer appropriate patients (i.e., CardioNet model)
    B.   Direct contracts with private health insurers for licenses for X patients (i.e., Disease Management model – payor selects high-risk patients from claims data)

  3. Funding:
    A.  In the current fundraising environment, what can an early-stage, pre-revenue company do to improve the prospects of raising seed/early-stage capital?
    B.   Given the current environment, are we prudent to conduct an initial close with $500K (versus the $2 million ideally sought), with the goal of completing device development and thereby achieving a critical, value-added milestone?
