About

|
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide (1.7 million new cases in 2012), with the majority of cases (52.6%) and deaths (62%) now occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Here, the vast majority of the cases present at late stages with poor prognosis, at least in part, due to the lack of early detection. In developed countries, benefits of mammography led screening have recently come under intense scrutiny, further disorienting the process of establishing guidelines for early detection in regions with increasing incidence rates and dramatically poor survival.
Founded in 2009, UE LifeSciences (UELS) is developing a range of innovative medical device technologies for use in developing countries as primary breast cancer screening tools and in developed countries as adjunctive screening tools. UELS' first product, NoTouch BreastScan™ (www.NoTouchBreastScan.com) received FDA clearance for breast cancer detection in 2012 and is now being marketed in several countries overseas. UELS's second product, iBreastExam™ (www.iBreastExam.com) is being commercialized with funding from the PA Department of Health and expected to launch in early 2015.
