About

Precision Medicine: Game Changer? Or Something Less?

What will be the primary drivers: Genetic Engineering or personalized patient-centric healthcare delivery? How will it be regulated? Who will pay for it? What impact will it have on the development of new drugs and devices? Where do physicians and hospitals fit in? How can Big Pharma survive such a proposed sweeping change? Will the US economy support it? Will patients finally have a say in the healthcare equation?

On May 11th we will tackle these questions and more when Michael Liebman moderates  a distinguished panel of experts to discuss what promises to be an historic paradigm shift in the delivery of health care as we know it.

Excerpt from the NIH Website for Precision Medicine:

"Precision medicine is an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person. While significant advances in precision medicine have been made for select cancers, the practice is not currently in use for most diseases. Many efforts are underway to help make precision medicine the norm rather than the exception. To accelerate the pace, President Obama has now unveiled the Precision Medicine Initiative — a bold new enterprise to revolutionize medicine and generate the scientific evidence needed to move the concept of precision medicine into every day clinical practice."

The program will begin with introductory remarks followed by a lively panel discussion for the first hour. For the last 30 minutes we will take questions from the audience.
