About Natural Discovery LLC. We are engaged in the structural biology of natural products in complex with targets of potential therapeutic value. While these compounds were the early source for all medicines, their complexity and difficult synthesis has made them unattractive as scaffolds in a drug discovery setting. However, the principles of structure-based drug design with small molecules in the pharmaceutical industry can be applied to similar complexes with natural products. We are developing strategies to transform natural product screening hits into chemically tractable drug-like scaffolds. We are currently seeking Angel investors for this project.
Eric obtained his degrees in Biochemistry from Purdue (BS 1982) and then his Ph.D from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1990). He was NIAID post-doctoral Fellow at the NCI and a staff scientist with the NCI structure-based drug design lab. From 1994 to 2003, he was a crystallographer with the Upjohn Company (Pharmacia). He was the group leader for the crystallography group at Eli Lilly Company for 2 years, before taking on the role of Director of Macromolecular Crystallography at Bristol-Myers Squibb. He founded a consulting and drug discovery company, Natural Discovery LLC in 2011.
